Angling
breaks for 2006

Castletownbere enjoys an enviable location for angling as it
is the largest white fishing port in Ireland and the second
most sheltered harbour in the world. It has direct access to
the clear, deep Atlantic Ocean, yet benefiting from great
shelter provided by Bere Island. The Gulf Stream brings
warmer waters and exotic species of marine life to our
shores.
So far 31 species if fish have been caught here on rod and
line. Good fishing can be had throughout the year; but May
until late September are generally the best months. A
typical days fishing will see Pollack to 14lbs, Ling to 20
lbs, Haddock to 7lbs, Conger to 40lbs, Cod to 10lbs along
with Bull huss, Whiting, various Ray and Flatfish being
targeted. Fishing for blue shark is very dependable and
productive with specimens to 140 lbs. |

Bantry Bay
and the waters surrounding the Beara Peninsula provide the
ideal opportunity to watch for seals dolphins and whales in
their natural environment. Glengarriff and Garnish Island
provide the ideal setting to see seals soaking up the sun,
whilst dolphins can be spotted ‘dancing’ under and around
the boat just outside "the harbour at Castletownbere.
Several species of dolphin and whales can be found in local
waters, including among others common, bottlenose and rissos
dolphins, pilot, fin, humpback, killer and minke whales.

Golfing Breaks

The
Berehaven golf course is situated just three miles from the
Cametringane hotel in the beautiful Beara peninsula. It is a
beautiful seaside nine-hole course overlooking Berehaven
harbour with Hungry Hill on one side and Bere Island on the
other. Water is a feature on this course. The Atlantic Ocean
comes into play on three of the holes particularly the 9th,
par 3, which requires a tee shot over the water. Golf club
facilities include tennis court, pro shop, cart hire, crazy
golf amongst others.
